Tyler Roof Repair repairs and replaces soffit and fascia on homes and commercial buildings in Tyler, TX and across East Texas. The fascia is the board behind your gutter. The soffit is the panel under your eave. They are the first wood on the house to rot, because they take every drop of water the gutter fails to carry away, and East Texas humidity never lets them dry out. We fix the rot, correct the drip edge so it does not come back, and check the rafter tails behind the board while we are up there. Licensed, bonded, insured, and BBB Accredited. What Soffit and Fascia Repair Costs in East Texas
Fascia and soffit are priced by the linear foot, and the number depends almost entirely on how far the rot has traveled before someone catches it.
- Spot fascia repair, cutting out a rotted section and scarfing in new board: $300 to $1,200. Most calls that start with “the gutter is pulling away from the house” land here.
- Full fascia replacement along one side: $6 to $12 per linear foot for primed wood, $12 to $20 per linear foot for aluminum or PVC wrapped board that will not rot again.
- Soffit replacement: $8 to $20 per linear foot depending on material and whether the vented panels have to be matched to existing ventilation.
- Rafter tail repair when the rot has reached the framing: added per tail, and the reason we look behind the board before quoting.
Those ranges cover the typical Tyler home. We quote in writing after we have put a hand on the boards, because a fascia that looks fine from the driveway can be soft for twenty feet behind the gutter.
Why the Board Behind the Gutter Rots First
Every fascia failure we see in Tyler, Lindale, Whitehouse, and the rest of East Texas has the same cause: water that should have gone into the gutter went behind it instead. That happens three ways.
Overflowing gutters. East Texas pine needles and oak leaves pack gutters faster than almost anywhere in the state. When the gutter overflows, water sheets down the back of it and onto the fascia on every rain.
Missing or short drip edge. Drip edge is the metal strip at the roof edge that directs water off the shingle and into the gutter. A lot of older East Texas roofs were built without it, or with a short profile that lets water wick back under the shingle and onto the fascia. If the drip edge is wrong, a new fascia board rots on the same schedule the old one did. We correct it as part of the repair.
Humidity. A fascia in a dry climate gets wet and dries out. A fascia in Smith County gets wet and stays wet, which is why rot here runs so much farther along the board than homeowners expect.
Once the fascia goes soft, the gutter hangers lose their grip, the gutter sags, overflow gets worse, and the cycle speeds up. That is the stage most people call at. The repair is still straightforward at that point, but it is a bigger repair than it would have been a year earlier.
Soffit Damage: Rot, Ventilation, and Animals
Soffit fails for the same reason fascia does, since water that gets behind the fascia drains onto the soffit, but soffit damage has two consequences fascia damage does not.
The first is ventilation. Vented soffit is the intake side of your attic airflow. Clogged, painted-over, or rotted soffit vents cut off that intake, the attic runs hotter in summer, and the shingles age from underneath. We covered what that does to a roof in our piece on summer heat damage.
The second is animals. A soft soffit panel, a gap at the fascia return, or a torn vent screen is an open door for squirrels, raccoons, and rats, especially in October and November when they are looking for somewhere warm. Soffit repair is as much about closing that door as it is about the wood.
Repair or Replace: How We Decide
We cut out and replace a section when the rot is confined to a few feet and the board is sound on both sides of it. We replace the full run when the rot reaches the rafter tails where the hangers bite, when more than a few feet are soft, or when a prior repair is already failing. We will show you the board and explain which case you are in before we quote.
On replacement, you have a choice between primed wood, which costs less and will eventually need the same attention, and aluminum or PVC wrapped fascia, which costs more up front and does not rot. For a house with a history of gutter overflow, wrapped board is usually the better money.
Either way, the drip edge gets corrected and the gutters go back on with new hangers. If the gutters themselves are the cause, our gutter repair and replacement service handles that in the same visit.
Commercial Soffit and Fascia
Commercial and multi-family buildings in East Texas usually carry metal fascia and soffit rather than wood. Those fail at seams, at fasteners that have backed out, and at the edge metal behind the gutter, and they are repaired with sealing, refastening, and panel replacement rather than carpentry. We handle metal fascia systems on retail, office, church, and apartment properties alongside our commercial roof repair work.
What We Check While We Are Up There
Fascia rot rarely travels alone. On every soffit and fascia call we also look at the drip edge, the first course of shingles and starter strip at the eave, the gutter pitch and hangers, and the condition of the rafter tails. If we find a flashing problem or a leak path at the eave, we tell you about it in the same written estimate, and you decide what to do with the information.
